Do rostrata really get that big? It says 8 inches. I'm asking because I've had mine for a year now and they are still only 2 1/2 inches TL.
Does anyone actually have any that are 8 inches?

I have a 5 inch nutter of a Botia rostrata. Back in 2003 when i purchased a group of them, they where all the same size but this one totally out-grew the others. He is most definitely the dominant one. With the 8 inch mark, i would imagine that they are possible long lived wild specimens.
I'm looking forward to The Dark One (Steve's) new article on these Botia's.

Thanks Graeme.
Would you say that it should be concerning that mine are only 2 1/2 inches now? They are beginning to show their adult markings but were definitely juveniles when I got them a year ago at about 2 inches long.
As far as dominance goes I would say neither of them are dominant, they've let a big yoyo rule them. They're pretty timid in comparison to yoyos.

Most definitely not. I wouldn't be concerned. My other ones are all 3 inches or just over and they are also the same age as my large chap. The reason why i mentioned Steve's (The Dark One) article is that maybe there is two species similar to the Botia rostrata and one of them don't grow as large as the other. The wheels are in motion for the truth!

Hmmm, this makes me wonder a bit. One of my new Kubs looks a lot like this Rostrata photo:

Are there any behavioral differences between Kubs and Rostrata? My strange-marked Kub is considerably more shy than the others, it also hides in a different way..while others sit on the bottom of the cave, it hides upside down on the ceiling....
Kottelat asaik does not recognize Rostrata at all.

Regarding Kottelat. To me, the word Questionably means nothing apart from them admitting that they don't know! Also see here >> http://www.fishbase.org/Nomenclature/Sy ... code=24692
