Tired of snail outbreaks in my planted tanks, I'm thinking about floating any new plants I get in the clown loach tank before planting in other tanks.
Any reasons this might not be ok?

That would really depend on what you use to give good flow in your clown loach tank. If I was to float plants in my tank, they'd get dragged against the protective cages of the powerheads, in particular the powerful Tunze stream. Also, my clowns are big enough to destroy all but the most robust of plants and I think they'd see any that were floating about as 'toys'.
So it really depends on your set up, size of the clowns & types of plants really.

new store bought plants and snails can carry desease. I isolate new plants for a month before putting them in a tank.
