Schistura Unknown like this at the lfs

Post by LoachOrgy » Thu May 31, 2007 11:29 am

I finally found it.

They had these guys at big al's and the lfs. One was labeled red tail tiger loach, the other the cherry tail loach. I was searching for so long on the picture finder but didn't find it until now. Regardless of the name, this is what the fish looked like but had a red tip at the tail in both cases. The entire tail was not red just the tip.

Check against S. Nicholsi. It is similar, and some individuals may have bright red tails while others have less or no red.

S. Nicholsi is being imported now... my usual lfs got about 30 of them and managed to kill them all (put them with Danios that were infected with Velvet or something similar to it.) Nice fish... it was...

There are many red tailed Schistura/Nemacheilus that are regularly exported.

LO, any idea of origin?

no, and the people at the lfs didn't even know what a cherry barb was lol.

the red tail tiger loach as it was labeled at big al's i believe said sumatrabut i am not 100% positive. i will try and give them a call to find out. these guys are all around 1" big that they have. big al's has had them several months and they aren't selling very well bc it appears they have the same amount everytime i go in there. plus they are hiding in this one corner that is hard to see.

I've kept that Schistura unknown07 for 3yrs now. It hasn't grown over 1 inch in my time of keeping him. If they stay small or around 1 inch then it's a unknown but if they grow over 1 inch then it will be something else.
