My Loaches with Spots

Post by BlueFrog » Wed Jun 13, 2007 5:49 pm

Hello! I've been reading through this site, and have learned quite a lot about loaches! I'm generally fond of loaches and any other fish with whiskers (catfish and plecks).

We have these little fellows in our tank -- I assume Dojo loaches? Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone knew why they might get the spots that they have?

All the rest in the tank at the LFS were solid coloured, light to dark yellow, so being the pest that I am, i made the clerk chase these little guys out for me.

Well, here they are :)

I have one more (Spot), but couldn't get a decent picture of him. Regardless, he has the 'spots' as well. They're sharing their 99gal home with a herd of clown loaches, some plecks, a barking catfish, some guppies and platys, 2 black tipped sharks and 2 ruby sharks. I'll see if i can get any better pictures of these guys :)

It is not uncommon to see these dark pigmentation spots on golden weather loaches. Nothing to worry about at all.

Thanks for the info - i figured it wasn't too much of a problem since they are all pretty frisky and have been in the tank for about 6 mos. now, but wasn't sure how common it was :D

The 3 in the tank are Fluffy, Fido and Spot -- when I asked my BF what to call the first one we got, he said 'Fluffy', and the classic dog names came up for the rest of them ;)

... And thanks everyone for the welcome :)
