khuli loach eggs

Post by koko » Sat Jun 16, 2007 8:19 pm

Hi, I was wandering if anyone could give me info on khuli loach eggs. I have found some whiteish mystery eggs floating around the bottom of my tank. They look a little like styrafoam clumped together in small balls. But they couldn't possibly be styrafoam, I don't even have any of that in my house, and no new tank equipment has been added. I have these eggs netted and just resting in the tank. I haven't been able to find any pics on line yet what loach eggs look like. In my tank I have 3 clown loaches approx 6cms, 2 black khulis approx 5 cms, 2 bristlenose catfish (5 cms), 5 guppies, 5 neon tetras. :? I know the guppies are live bearers, and I would say that the neon tetras would have smaller eggs that what I am seeing. Any help please, I'm very curious and want to take good care of them. Thanks

I've never had my kuhlis spawn. But from what I read they lay green eggs. If this is true then the eggs belong to one of your other tank inhabitants.

Bristlenoses lay yellow eggs in cluster I think.

Kuhli eggs are famously green. I've had many gravid kuhlis of different species, but I've never actually found eggs.

they look a lot like the cluster of bristlenose eggs, excepts these are white. I may just have to resign myself and wait (impatiently). I would have thought that my bristlenose were too immature to be breeding anyway. Oh well. it will be a waiting game. whatever it is, I have netted the eggs and have them floating in the tank. Will attempt to take a photo of the eggs and post them. Thanks again for the replies.

White eggs are often a sign that they haven't been fertilized. Could be you had a female spawn but with no male in the mood for it.

I'm inclined to agree with you Dave. I have since noticed the eggs are going fuzzy, which makes me think that they're not viable. I'll give it another 24 hours, and if nothing happens, I'll just get them out of the tank. It's still a mystery to me though whom they belong to. Never mind, I hope whichever wet pet, she will try again sometime soon, and that if there is a male in the tank, he might fertilize them. I would love to see some baby whatevers in the tank :)

the eggs did nothing and i threw them out, they had a jelly like coating around them. since the 'egg' find, my poor clown loaches have got ich  , i have raised the temp in the tank to 86F and treating with half strength medication. I have been reading up lots about ich, and have found out that after the ich leaves the host, they go to the bottom of the tank and encase themselves in a cyst, which is jelly like, before they multiply again. I wonder if that is what i found instead of eggs. Either way my poor clowns are really down in the dumps. How long will it be before they stop flashing, and they are in the far corner of my tank swimming against the glass about mid way in the tank. Is this normal. They are breathing rapidly, and I can see some redness underneath one of the loaches mouth area, probably from rubbing. And is ich harmful to humans, I don't wear gloves when changing the water, and i use a syphon cleaner. would hate to think that I might catch something from injesting a few drops of water while getting the syphon to work, have managed to pull hose away from mouth before actually swallowing any so far, thank goodness. Think I will go and buy a pump syphon.
