Weird b. histrionica behavior

Post by mistergreen » Sun Jun 17, 2007 3:23 pm

Ok.. this is weird but some of you might have it happen to you..
My 4-5 inch histrionica have recently found a new thing to do by jumping out of the water and swims upstream against the HOB filter current and jumping into the HOB filter itself!

It's a rather large filter and he stays in one of the 2 container. He stays in there for a day and then jumps out to eat and hang out with the other histrionica. I just saw him do it again.

There's no danger of him getting chewed up by the motor.. There is a danger of him missing his jumps and wind up out of the tank however.

Should I discourage this behavior and how? He seems to enjoy it.

there's plenty of hiding places in the tank, not sure why he prefers the filter.

hahaha.. i used to have a leopard danio that did that, scared me half to death!!

i dunno about stopping it from jumping.. maybe put a peice of mesh over the filter output? wouldnt make as good of a 'waterfall' anymore then.. hmm

Yeah, i would discourage this behavior and redirect him/her to other playtime activity's. It's like a child playing near the road! Not to my likings.

that's what I'm thinking.. And maybe throw in a large sea shell? Maybe he's bored. But this guy has a tendency to go away for a couple of days and come back looking healthier and bigger.. Not sure if this is natural behavior.

He's the biggest b. histrionica i've seen.. Live anyways.

I got him out of the filter.. It seemed like I was disturbing the guy. He was having a good time in there.

And I buried a pvc pipe in the back of the driftwood for anybody you wants to use it.
