Got me some khulis! Yey!

Today my husband took me to the LFS and got me some Khulis. I had a hard time getting good photos of them. For some reason it's hard to find them around here, if I find more I'l be sure to pick them up. They are small and hidden in the tank at the moment. I took a few photos, sorry they are not great quality.

I'll post better ones when they get a bit braver in the weeks to come.

Very nice indeed!

Keep a close eye on them over the next few weeks as this will be a critical time for them. Hopefully the store will have had them in for some time before putting them on sale.

It's a store that I do trust. They have very healthy stock usually. I have never seen an ill fish for sale. I will however keep an eye on them, you never know what may happen.

I only mention it because kuhlis are renowned for not coping with the export process too well.

I am a bit nervous about that part to be honest. I keep hearing how they do not ship well.

It's always nice to hear advice from people who are much more knowledgable than I am. I'll have to watch and wait. So far they seem very active, I hope that is a good sign.

The crucial period seems to be 7, at most 10 days in about a dozen cases I've seen so far. Emma is however correct, watch them carefully for some weeks to make sure...

I'm aware of four shipments of kuhlis in NY within the last month (3 stores involved, 3 were mixed/striped kind, 1 oblonga) that were fully wiped out. I'm not aware of any store having healthy kuhlis recently. (Of course I don't monitor all stores around...)

The quality of the store does not matter since the animals usually look healthy until the dieout begins. What does matter is if the store quarantines them prior to selling or not; most stores do not.

Most importantly: whatever is going on is not merely shipping damage. It is infectious, at least to other kuhlis. So if you do fine with these two, and decide to get more, quarantine is a must.

Thanks os much for the advice and information everyone. Day three is almost at close, so far so good with the new guys.

Here are a couple more photos. They are getting braver, yet I cannot get them in a photo together. I call them Bert & Ernie.

Nice kuhlis!

I think both are Myersi's, the top one certainly is.

In my tank the preferred location is a sword plant...it may take them a couple of weeks, but this is where they may end up.
