Our profiles are made up of personal experiences from multiple LOL members over the years, plus research done in many areas by the moderation team when creating these new profiles. The sources of information were multiple and not cited.
There exists another forum which the majority of LOL members cannot see. It is only viewable by LOL moderators. Jeff created it as a "workshop" where we could "build" all the new profiles and they were then pasted over to the new site. All the moderators viewed them, sometimes added information or modified wording, so they were truly a team effort.
I'm sure that we are all glad that our efforts do not go unrecognized and you asking so politely Ded1 is, as Emma says, very refreshing because in the past we have seen LOL content basically "stolen".
Good information is good information.....in any language. The facts will be the same. Writing it down in a different way is what any writer of a book or article does. Putting their own style on given facts. It's the research anyone should do when creating something non-fictional.
We strive to get proper information out to the world of Loach-keepers. If Ded1 wants to use information verbatim (word for word) then he has to ask the site owner in my opinion. If he wants to "research" and write the info down in his own style and wording in his own language then it means that we all did a good job and the info can be spread to non-English readers.
Ded1 does not have to ask anyone for permission to do that but by asking it shows that he places great value on "doing the right thing". I get requests every so often to use my articles verbatim and I always give permission to do it. But I also insist on being fully credited as the author. I did not write my articles to hide them, I write them for the widest disemmination.....otherwize how else can they acheive my intent of spreading knowledge? Allowing translation into other languages helps get that information to non-English reading people.
When it comes down to online useage I have always asked for the user to write back once the translation is done and provide me with a link that can be placed in the Articles Index. Better that someone reads it in their own language as comprehension of the facts will surely be better. That reminds me....I have to put a link in to a Vietnamese translation that's been done
LOL is a truly international community and we should strive for international cooperation in spreading the word on correct Loach keeping.
