i panicked at first but i think runt loach was accidentally crushed by some of the other fish when they went into a frenzy.
the small runt loach just started jerking. i placed him in the separator tank but I think hes done. he looks exactly like the fish that what happened to flipper!

All your loaches are belong to me!
here are my earlier tests. this just happened.
tank stats today. i have changed the water at least 4 times in a few days. once 50 and 25. Two times at 25%. giving at least an 8 hour gap between wc.
water temp is 78 degrees
1) nitrates: 0-5mg/L or ppm it appears to be between 0 and 5. I cannot tell the difference on this chart. It looks like its somewhat between the two colors being orange and yellow.
2) nitrites: 0 ppm
3) ph: it appears the ph has dropped significantly to 6.0-6.2. its usually 7.0. test a few days ago was 7.0 when flipper and uc were having problems.
4) ammonia: between 0-.6 ppm. this is as close as the test goes. it is more towards the clear part. but just between clear and the slightly shaded .6.
any tips. I am about to test the tap water again.
tap:
1) ammonia: 0ppm
2) ph: 7.2-7.4. woah big difference.
3) nitrite: 0ppm.
4) nitrate: 0ppm
the tap water was tested without the addition of water conditioner. this is straight tap water.
i added a tiny bit of prime in my last water change. could this be why the ph is so low?
i did a 5 gallon water change about two hours ago. the loach was playing and seemed fine. he was playing and everything. then all of the sudden he did this. looked stiff as a board and started jerking hard. now i think the loach is dead.

im calm now. i was watching the loach inside the tank ornament. he was playing and being regular. the loach then laid down on its side like it normally does when it sleeps. then about two seconds later just started jerking like it was real stiff. it jerked all over the tank. i had to catch him with the net and place him in the separator. he guy is done. hes not moving at all. does this sound strange? that is 3 fish in 3 days.
i don't understand this. my girlfriend and i are watching all the fish and they all look normal right in front of us.

ok i am not sure but one of my two middle sized loaches about 3" looks extremely big in the belly. i mean ridiculously big. do loaches give live birth? how does that work?
otherwise the loach must have eaten too much squash.
the runt loach didn't appear to be eating for a few days. but i think it may have been an accident and the loach was crushed under all of the fish. i was watching when they all moved at once.

Apparently runt loach died by accident. I just looked very closely at him after I pulled him out of the water. He has a slice on his face near his eye on both sides of his head. It appeared that the fish was crushed by another fish. i think it was an accident. they were all piled on top of eachother and fish became startled. the other fish all just took off really fast. i think the poor guy was smashed. im going to upload this picture. i don't know if you can see the detail enough though.
In this picture you can see right below the eye where the cut is. its like that exactly on both sides. I will post pic once photo bucket starts working.
