Need help, tank temp too hot for my loaches!

Post by WaterDragonies » Wed Jul 11, 2007 2:16 am

Hello all, I'm new to the world of loaches, but summer is hot here...and my tank temp is 27 C...too hot for loaches. Wayy too hot. I've been to every single petstore here and none of them have tank coolers, please...can someone show me a site that is realiable where I can buy a tank cooler that can be shipped to canada and be paid with paypal?? Thanks so much, I'm really worried about my loaches...I hope they will be alright.

Thanks so much.

If you can't, why not try a freezer bag filled with ice cubes?

I found one on Ebay... not sure if you wanted to pay this much but they do ship worldwide.

Another good tip is to have a household fan blowing on to your waters surface. As well as cooling the water slightly it'll also disturb the surface a little increasing the waters oxygen uptake.
Live your life like a hillstream loach; move fast, if things get rough cling on no matter what and eat your greens.

A fan as germGB pointed out would work great and should drop your water temp 3-4 degrees at least ,watch for increased evaporation though and do not just add water to top off as this will lead to worse problems in a few weeks. Remove some water and do a water change a little more frequently if you add a fan. I do not agree with adding ice as that can cause a huge temp shift too quickly(sorry Blue) :) Low 02 is going to be your problem with warm water so feed a little less through the hot spell :) ,A little bubbler will help also and block any sunlight with a cardboard or the like.Good Luck

Yep, a fan is the surefire solution for tank cooling unless your ambient air is 100% humidity, which is unlikely in most places.
