Hi, I'm also in the process of doing a manifold
I have a question though. What is the difference between a filter cartridge and a sponge in terms of usage? Does the filter cartridge help to trap debris?
Is there any brand of powerhead that you people can recommend? I can't find aquaclear at my country though.

The main difference between the sponges and cartridges is that the sponges need to have a length of pipe full of holes or slits up the centre of them to attach them to the manifold and hold them in place whereas the cartridges just push onto the pipe work.
The cartridges also give you the option to use different filter medias, those that are on now just until the fish go in have something that resembles a large scouring pad in them with plastic biological media inside and you can put sponges in the cartridges or even just filter floss, so really you could have a different filter media in each cartridge as opposed to all sponges.
The powerheads I am using are Resun SP2500 and they seem to do everything required

Pardon my honesty - I am a Northerner
14 loach species bred, which will be next?
avant, look at each powerhead with the question of how you will attach it to the plumbing. Will the pipe/tubing or whatever you are using fit snuggly so the powerhead is secure? Remember that when the water is being pumped the PH will be forced backward with some force. It needs to be secure on the pipe. Connecting it to the glass helps, until the suction cups give up. The Aquaclears have a very poor connection, easily dislodged. I am going to have to work on that this weekend; I have quite a few AC powerheads, too much $ to replace them, except one at a time as they die.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.
Happy fish keeping!
