Sweet Jesus. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but this is not normal, and it does not looks normal. It sure as hell is not a slight irregularity, it looks like mutated gold fish with stripes.

The one that has the long fins belongs to someone else. Yes, you're comparison to a striped goldfish has merit, but don't blame the fish.

Not blaming the creature. To the fish ( the other one ), I would say "s.it happens sweety, but I do hope people will not find you pretty and start to find a way to make hundreds of your cousins look like you"

I agree with you Ded. Mutations, anomalies, etc. happen but to selectively breed to create unnatural morphs of fish I am not in agreement with.

Yeah look at the person I quoted in my message. There are infact two different loaches on the webpage, though I dont get bent out of shape about the other one either(at least without knowing more facts about it), but my comments were about the one with a simple fork in the tail, or whatever you would call that .

I personally don't like any irregulars on any fish, but these things happen. We can take this debate on to another level with Leucistic fish as well as Albino fish. But as much as i don't like looking at these fish, these facts do arise. Thankfully in a limited amounts!

Such irregularities are often the raw materials natural selection works on. Why do people find that so repulsive? I really don't understand the reactions I keep seeing from some people here.

i like my irregular striatas, but all mine have very distinctive markings to my eye anyway. there is irregular and IRREGULAR. i sort of agree with Graeme and dont generally like albinos, long finned varieties, and as for all those horrible goldfish....they make me swear fairly. there's nothing wrong with the odd genetic oddity, but why try and line breed from some of them?

I'm not a fan of albinos particularly and I don't like fancy goldfish, but artificial selection isn't the issue here at all. People are getting all up in arms over a sport of nature. That said, how about all the varieties of guppies and bettas? Those are very much man-made breeds...
