Various Botia Pics

Post by Martin Thoene » Thu Sep 27, 2007 2:47 pm

In an attempt to photograph the Yasuhikotakia lecontei that went into my 6-foot tank the other day I was completely unsuccessful, but I did manage to get these pics.

One of the Czechmates

A kubotai

Now this is the "Yoyo" I bought a few weeks ago primarily because he was all alone in a tank of Rift-Lake cichlids and had nice, unusual markings. Here he is in the bag sometime in early August.

Image

Now he looks like this. You can see a very slight increase in the diameter of the round, light patches in the stripes.

Image

I guess you can look at it and say that it's an older almorhae that is developing the more reticulated patterning, but then you have to consider how big it actually is............

Image

That's a freshly dropped in Hikari Algae Wafer, so it's only a little titch really. Currently, it's following the kubotais around, but the interesting thing is that I saw one follow it so the interaction isn't just a one-way search for company that the newbie has been missing.

A bunch of beauties, Martin.

I've always admired your 'Windelov' java fern. Now I finally have my own growing in three tanks. :)

I do like the shape of your hybrid if I may use that term. It is very Robust looking. A real beauty.

Thanks. The fact that their parentage may be from Dr. Frankenstein's lab does not detract from the fact that they're extremely beautiful fish both in looks and behaviour. I love 'em.

That weirdy Yoyo is coming on nicely. 8) I see that some of the vertical bars on the lower part of the fish (anterior of the dorsal fin) are now joining up.

Took this yesterday. My very dark kubotai.

Image

Looks a bit weird due to the lower caudal lobe being folded over against the bogwood in this pic.
