My comments re: MelaFix and PimaFix are from personal experience. Both seem to be particularly dangerous for Kuhlis, though as I mentioned, I'd use MelFix on most any other fish. I had an identical experience to Shari's with PimaFix

I never mix but also read that on the label. I have not had a fish with an open wound for a while that I needed Melafix. That is the difference in direction on the label as opposed to the Pimafix but if you both have the same results with Melafix as Pimafix with no problem I will try the Melafix if anybody clamps or shows a slime coat issue . These are what I have issues with with my new recruits more than anything besides parasites. I know Angels can have fin issues mostly because of low flow probably but I don't really have that issue here . I will alter my ideas for my loaches as that is the only difference in what the meds treat. I chose Pimafix as it treated or claimed to treat specifically my issues but for a quarter more you can treat a wound. I guess I will pay up......I was trying to stay target specific.

With regard to the Kuhlis I had mortailties with MelaFix alone. The were in a community tank and I was treating some Corys for minor barbel erosion. The Kuhlis were not the fish being treated, they were just along for the ride. That's why I'm certain it was the MelaFix.

When I used MelaFix and PimaFix combined there were no Kuhlis in the tank (learned my lesson....or so I thought). All the fish in the tank in that case showed serious stress within a matter of minutes. I didn't wait to see what would happen and did an emergency water change.

I did open up the gravid yoyo to see if her rotundity was eggs or just overeating. It was eggs, but her abdominal cavity reeked of Pimafix. The smell was strong enough that it wafted into the other room...

That is intresting,was this a fish lost in the mix so to speak..
What did the eggs look like ,where they the same as the post about the breeding Clowns? It is intresting to note the meds where inside the fish,inside with the egg area then so that would mean absorbed into the blood? or the stomach which would indicate injested..... very intresting indeed

In the past, i've used Melafix with Pangio's and they basically went spazzy but with Pimafix, wordings are out there for deaths from using it.

I personally experienced Kuhli deaths with MelaFix and would have with the PimaFix (I'm certain of this) had I no immediately removed it from the water. I also used both together on non-kuhlis and previously heathy fish almost immediately appeared as if they were suffocating. Rather than waiting and letting any fish die from the meds I immediately changed all the water.

MelaFix + healthy Kuhli = Dead Kuhli
MelaFix + healthy non-Kuhlis = OK
PimaFix + healthy Kuhli = Dead Kuhli
MelaFix + PimaFix + any healthy fish = Dead fish
