Clown Loach spawning
Moderator: LoachForumModerators
Does anyone know this person and the pic does not show a Clown dropping eggs......nor a Clown in the tank. I have no reason to doubt this is possible with these fish being kept closer and closer to the correct conditions but there is no bubbler or current applied so the eggs will be innundated with fungus, if I got that far I woud have sorted down and kept some clean I would hope.... I don't mean to sound as sceptical as this post reads, just wondering..........

I know Colin and believe this to be genuine. He hasn't taken the decision to post about this lightly.
Shari, I also located my clowns pre-spawning thread in the archives: http://aquaweb.pair.com/forums/archives ... view=91242 and will try to locate the pictures later. This all happened before we acquired Marge & Stripes, and has not been repeated since (the pecking order obviously changed).

http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/threa ... .1.htm?33# Here is another acount of clown loaches breeding. Again, no pics of the actual clowns spawning, or of the clowns. This one is weird as the eggs are floating. Scroll down to almost the bottom to see the pics.

Clowns-6 is a group and more is never too many, providing the aquarium is large enough.
Hi all,
Emma invited me to post on this thread and I guess it makes sense as this is where all the loach experts should be. Obviously I am aware that this is quite a controversial thread and that people have the right to be skeptical... after all, we have heard this before haven't we?
Anyway, I'll answer all questions I can and take whatever pics you want to see. I have been taking pics with a macro lens tonight and I have 3 pics to post here of the egg as they look about 24 hrs further on.
There were literally thousands to start with and almost all have fungused up. The ones that haven't are in small tubs with a drip or two of methylene blue and aeration.
I still have eggs that look promising but there is no sign of development, when would you expect clown eggs to hatch? 48hrs? 72 hrs?
have a look at these pics, I have shrunk them down a bit but you can still see that many eggs are white and 'exploded' looking whereas there are about 20 that are still compact and amber/brown.
Have a look and all comments are welcome...

Okay, give me about 20 mins as I have to put the camera in the shed to get rid of condensation and upload the pics.
The adults are back in the main tank which if you didnt read the link to petfrd is just under 300 gals and is 60"x24"x48". They were not feeding and I was worried about the eggs polluting the water which I couldnt get o under the plastic grate...

Hi Graeme, good to see you here too!!!!
Here are a couple pics from just now. You lot will just have to believe that I have the clowns in the first place LOL. As you will see from the pics the shed is only lit by one big fluro bulb to help keep costs down, so pics are a little dark but you will get the idea
on the right is the big tank where the clowns normally live and are now, as you can see there are stacks of pipes, incidentally, they do use that pipe at 45deg angle a lot.
I added a stack of Prima in as that is normally the favourite food (that and squid!?) and they didn't show but that's not too surprising the lat few days they have had...
there is also a pic of a tub of eggs.
I understand, only a pic of an egg leaving a fish's vent or pics of fry will finally prove the spawning to some but at least this has spurred me on to a challenge otherwise deemed impossible.
My plan is to see what these eggs do. Gut out and clean the 36x18x18 they spawned in, put the 4 back in and try and settle them into the tank for a good while then give them a big water change with water just like I used this past week.
The pics...

Most of the tanks on the left of the shed are for rearing small fish and breeding.
The big tank is filtered by that large wet/dry tower from TMC
sorry the shed is a bit of a mess for the pics, more to follow

Great to see you here, Colin.
Thank you for posting all those pics and showing us your set-up.
Sadly, there will be no real hard & fast information we can give you on the hatching, as other 'attempts' have never been proven and nothing has been documented in such great detail. It is probably going to be a case of trial and error with regards to temps, pH etc etc. I'd say Kamphol & co are probably in a good position to give you the best indications of what to expect.
Had all the fish concerned been together since they were small, or were they brought together recently? Are there more than 4 in total? Just wondering if there are more, but only 4 seemed to show interest.
