Melafix may help, but I have found it useful at the beginning of the problem, not so far in. Since the antibiotics are several days off, go ahead and use it. Watch the fish for breathing problems, and be ready to do enough of a water change to reduce the Melafix if needed. (a couple of 50% water changes, back to back will reduce it to about 25% of the original dose)

I would also keep up with lots of water changes and gravel vacs. Get the bacterial (and other organism) count as low as possible.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.
