For my 125, I initially tried the Rainbow-Lifegard (now Pentair) modular filtration system then a wet/dry and then an Ocean Clear bead filter.

I had various problems with the first two. The bead filter is wonderful. It doesn't clog quickly and there's no media to remove and clean. I just backflush it when it's time for a water change. Just turn off the pump, flip a few valves, run a hose to a drain, and turn the pump back on again. In a few minutes, the tank is ready to be refilled and the filter is clean.

Bead filters are all the rage in large operations like public aquariums or farms as well as ponds.

I wish they made even smaller versions that could be installed on smaller tanks. I hate having to disconnect cannister filters and carry them to the bathtub, squeeze their sponges, bleach the micron pad, refill, and then prime them and hope they restart.
