OMG OMG OMG

I think about half of the Sumo loaches I bought actually are these Crimson loaches!

I had not seen this thread until linked to it by another - but half of them have the bands, the other half are marked exactly like these! They have either a yellowish color towards the rear, or pink.

Glad I found this!

Congratulations! 8) Can you provide us with some pictures for comparison? There is a lot of colour variation in the recently imported Schistura cf. balteata too: http://forums.loaches.com/viewtopic.php?t=3724 (see page 2 for lots of pics).

I may be buying a new digital camera in the next few weeks - if I do, I'll be happy to :)

My current camera doesn't have a macro setting, so close-up photos are worthless. Anything less than 4 foot away is unrecognizable.

By the way - what kind of Camera did you get? I'd love to be able to take photos that good!

Mine's a Nikon Coolpix 8700, which I think is a discontinued model, but you can pick them up secondhand for quite a good price. As long as you choose a model with a macro setting (and a good amount of megapixels), with lots of patience and practice, you should be able to get some good results.

DEAR EMMA

ACTUALLY THESE FISH WERE EXPORTED BY ME TO THE UK.
THEY ARE INDEED FROM A PROTECTED FOREST AREA IN KERALA.
SADLY THE JUVENILES DONT HAVE THE LOVELY MAROON COLOUR.

THOSE ARE REAL NICE PICTURES YOU POSTED IN THE FORUM.
I DIDNT KNOW THE FISH WERE THIS NICE.

I wonder what the likelihood of them ever coming to the USA would be.

Hi Deepak,

Great to see you here! :D I am the one who often bombards you with lots of questions through our mutual friend Annie. Your replies are always most helpful.

I will take some more up-to-date pictures of the Crimson Loaches soon and post them here. I think they are losing some of the bright colouration, probably due to the absence of something found in their natural diet. They are still a very beautiful fish though. 8)

Hope you can stick around Deepak, your input on this forum would be very valued.

I am worried that Deepak will put his price up now he has seen how nice these fish are - it's not too late to say you airbrushed them, Emma!

How is everyone finding these ? just out of interest ,i just picked up half a dozen ! the tank i've put them in is quite cool 64 degrees , has anyone got any views on this ?[ they seem fine] i'm hoping the cooler temp will lessen any possible aggression !

Very very aggressive! Despite a huge multiplicity of hiding places in the tank, it turned into a complete war zone. Let us know how you get one with yours Andy. Any ideas what the shop imported them as? My supplier still lists them as 'Schistura sp.' which, when being exported to the UK, can cause problems.
