Hi everyone!
I went to Okinawa located in the Japanese most south last month and visited at several rivers.
Okinawa area is subtropical zone.
I took some Sicyoputerus pictures too.

I came across some Sicyopterus (Mountain Rock Goby) at my local LFS this week - been pestering them for months now to try and get me some more Stiphodons.... Heiko Bleher confirmed my suspicions that they are S.lagocehalus...
Bought 6 and they are Very happy in my 20Gallon reophile system - Only problem is that out of the 25 fish they imported,all where males,so expect some aggression in future.... Dont think there's much chance of getting females - South Africa is not exactly a hot bed for more obscure species like these...

Odyssey - do you think that with only males,they will colour up to nuptial breeding colour out of territorial display?

Hi azurekoi !

There seems to be rarely a male with light nuptial coloration without a female.
However, the male gorgeous color of the body is the climax at a moment to appeal to a female.

Because the forum of your link had access number of times restrictions, I was able to watch only several pages.
Therefore unfortunately I was not able to find a picture of your Sicyoputerus.

All your gobies seem to be in good health.

MountainRockGoby which was the oldest fish in my water tank has gone last month.
It has got thin very much in the last moment.
January in 2012 and the last form.



February in 2011
It was the strongest in a water tank.



He kicked about other Sicyoputerus, but was kind to stiphodon.

It was still small and was very coward and have hidden immediately.

The male which became the vivid nuptial coloration appealed to a female flourishingly.

It is preyed in Glossogobius celebius and sees only a tail.

Sicyopterus.longifilis was the shocking for me, but there does not seem to be popularity than Stiphodon.
Many Japanese will be long-term consecutive holidays next week.
I travel to Indonesian Bali. I intend to search for many rivers.

I was able to watch only Sicyopterus lagocephalus in Bali.
Their habitation area is very large.
From Indo-Pacific: Comoros Islands (East Africa) to Australs Island (French Polynesia).
And the north is distributed to Okinawa ( Southernmost part of Japan).

Hi everyone!

I went to Fiji in my summer vacation.
In the Fijian river, I was able to find the Stiphodon genus, but it was the Sicyopterus genus that there were the most populations.
Sicyopterus lagocephalus inhabits Fiji, but there seem to be other Sicyopterus species, too.
I do not have confidence whether these are S.lagocephalus.
