Melon Feast *New pic's 11/5*

Post by Ashleigh » Sun May 04, 2008 8:21 am

So honey dew melon was on the menu for Sunday morning breakfast :D Hollyoaks was interupted with constant clicking from the clown tank

I thought I would take some pictures to share of the loaches making little piggies of themselves

Just noticed from the pic this morning; Stumpy is starting to straighten out-he used to have a little arch in his back, doesn't appear as obvious anymore, infact I can't even see it :)

nice one Ashleigh, it's a food iv'e never thought of feeding.
questions please.,
does it cause much mess when they're eating ?
how long do you leave it in the tank.?
does it alter the water chemistry at all?
and whats that youv'e weighted it down with, haha

great shots at the speed you had to do them.

Thanks for the comments guys, yep very pleased with the Stumpy one :D it will be interesting to see how he/she copes once attained a good few inches.

Namal kamalgoda, Yes the seeds are removed, partly for safty of the fish, and the additional mess that they would create. Theres two ways I use to weigh the melon down depending on size. For the smaller chunks I used the little weights you get with plants, for the larger pieces, I use a 'Screwcumber'

Mick, Yes I have found it to be fairly messy, but they enjoy it so much and prefer it over cucumber that Ive given in to it, but only at weekends so I can change the water after; I find it clogs the internals quite a bit as well.

I usually leave it in the tank for a few hours or if they have stopped showing an interest in it. In those pic's theres about 1/3 of a melon, it took them 3-4hours to have all the flesh stripped off, they love their fruit

No problem, They are a great idea, whoever came up with it, even if it is a bit random

More pictures of the loaches this evening :D Since about 4pm, like clockwork they all line up along the front of the tank together and will be there the rest of the night. Ive given up fighting with them over the left hand side of the tank-they move all the sand back down to the right hand side no matter how many times I fix it

Some of the beautiful wild caught rainbows Neil had in a while back, photo is a bit dark, but these are the most beautiful colours. I have hopes to try and breed these after the summer once they are conditioned up a bit :)
