Aquarium Sand - Which Type?

Post by vanillasky0237 » Thu Jun 22, 2006 10:59 pm

I am probobly about to switch from gravel to sand and I was wonder what type of sand you guys use in your aquariums. I have seen multiple kinds online and was wondering which kind best suits kuhli and clown loaches.

As long as you use 'aquatic' sand from your LFS. Then all is fine.

Just a quick note - make sure the sand you chose is not intended for use in marine aquariums as it is likely to make the water very hard, which your loaches will not appreciate. I tend to prefer silica sand (which has a golden look) and I think Graeme uses silver sand (pale gold) in some of his tanks. My river tank has black sand in it, which shows off the fish's colours quite nicely. If you are based across the pond, the types of sand available may have different names to those in the UK.

I'be just put sand in my 20g for my tiger barbs and pleco and it looks great, but make sure your filter isn't on to strong as i did thsi and it pushed the sand to the back of the tank.
