How does HITH rear its ugly head?

Post by kaz » Mon Jan 11, 2010 6:13 pm

Please can anyone tell me about the first signs of HITH?

One of my cichlids has a suspicious, what can only be described as a.. 'balding' lump right in the middle of her head - unfortunately I cannot get a picture atm, but I will work on it.

There is no damage, no white marks (I was worried that due to low temperatures in the house this last week that this may cause/ trigger off all sorts of problems) - nothing as such! Just a raised lump paler colour to her normal 'complexion'!

Any ideas?

An odd area on the head does sound suspicious, but I am not sure HITH shows up as a lump. All the pictures I have seen show a sunken area.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

Happy fish keeping!

Hey Diana

Yea - lump? first sign for HITH doesnt really seem plausible - I just couldnt think of anything it could be.

I have posted a pic of my tank on loaches section - I do have chains but you cant see them - but my cichlid is in the foreground and inspite of my poor picture quality (couldnt get an up-close pic im afraid) you can see the 'lump' a little in the pic.
