Will an adult Botia Histrionica bully juveniles?

Post by Simonloach » Mon Apr 26, 2010 9:07 am

Hi all!

I have one fully grown Botia Histrionica (~10cm) that's lived on his own for a long time (I bought 3 but 2 died and I never replaced them). I would like to get him some buddies but the LFS only ever seem to have juveniles (~5cm). If I got a couple of these would my adult loach play nicely or just bully them?

He can be quite "excitable" towards other fish and I was wondering if another couple of his kind would help calm him down a bit. I am setting up a 125 litre tank and have a few fish in there already (some neons, and oto's and a couple of thick lipped gourami's) but I've not introduced my loach yet.

Thanks for your help!

Simon

it really depends on the loach.
But ya it will push the smaller ones away from food and the hiding spot it likes.
My mature ones do... but if you have enough caves etc... it shouldn't be a problem.
The tank is kinda smallish for histies but I'd go for it.

ps- not sure about the gourami- loach compatibility though.
drain your pool!
