what kind of loach would b best for my tank?

Post by meaganmm » Fri Mar 30, 2012 7:15 pm

Hi i have a 75 gal with 7 cichlids and a sailfin pleco. I was looking at loaches and have read mixed reviews on whether or not this is a good fit. If it is not thats fine but these guys look like tons of fun to have and if theres some kind that would work i would appreciate any opinions anybody has. :D

What kind of Cichlids? They can be very possessive of their caves. The whole tank becomes theirs, and they do not welcome new fish.

What water chemistry? Most Loaches are soft water fish.

A Sailfin Plec can get REALLY BIG. Do you have plans for a larger tank?

38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

Happy fish keeping!

If you have the usual ca/sa cichlids, 75 gallon is already a little too small; for Africans, I know it's heresy around here but as long as you stay away from the truly pschos, some semi aggressive/aggressive loaches should be okay; skunks for instance. I have a school of 11 clowns and 3 red tail loaches with my yellow labs and various peacocks in a 300 gallon and no aggression issues at all; and all the loaches are out all the time.
