Holy crap!
Just did water-changes yesterday and I'm walking past the Clown tank today.
PHEW! It smells like a fishmongers! So I'm thinking dead fish.....so I look around and find a highly bloated and fuzzy-wuzzy Tiger barb floating on the surface.
Water-change time again.........the Clowns are puffing a bit hard....Bang goes a leisurely Labour Day morning.
Martin.

All done @ 11:30
I tested the water
......it was a big fat zero on Ammonia and Nitrite which is good. I did a 50% change and threw a big bag of Carbon into the Aquaclear 500 to get rid of the pong
The Clowns are breathing slower now
1:15 EDIT:
A-mazing! Now the water is completely odourless
Praise be to water-changes and Activated Carbon!
Martin.

I stopped caring a REEEEEEEALLY long time ago.. I think it was during my stint working @ Menagerie... (I believe I sold you some stuff Martin)...
Sh*t happens. That's the best motto for a fish keeper.
Recently I lost 30 Amano shrimp (thats a lot of money... not to mention the other reasons it sucks) because I have rediculously soft water !on purpose! for my angels...
"Oh look more shrimp died"
works much better for my emotional state than
"Oh my god what am I going to do"

Oh I absolutely do everything within reason. I can't remember how many times I've ruined plans because the fish need "X"...TammyLiz wrote:Oh, now that's sad. Freak out, no, but care? Yes. And do whatever you can within reason. They are, after all, your pets, and rely on you. Sorry to hear about your amanos, though.
I just don't let it affect my state of mind in any way. If it happens it happens, and I do whatever I can to help.
I take the best care I can of my fish...

Nah. Just a coating (like a heavy waxy cream) on the skin. Protects and coats the very thin skin. Most of it's gone by birth in full term babies.
...only 145 days to go...Merry Christmas!
fwiw, no, you shouldn't let losses/problems with your fish ruin you, but if you are passionate about your hobby it is not always possible to be completely detached, at least for me. The angst comes in and breeds further research, etc and makes me a better (hopefully) fishkeeper in the end.
