Loach Restaurant

While on a trip to Sharm El-Sheikh on the Red Sea we came across this restaurant. We didn't eat there, however found it difficult to believe loaches might be on the menu...

hmmm. I'm curious what a loach would taste like though.. A large clown would make for a hearty meal.

Loaches are related to carps/barbs right? I'd imagine they'd taste like carp.

My husband does that on purpose, says he is "putting the fear of Dave into them"

My dad went to Korea on duty, he was tempted to try dog meat, but said he would never be able to face our family dog again because "he would just know, you would see it in his eyes and he would KNOW!" lol

I recall that when we were researching the loach book, there was a reference to clown loach being thought of as "hard and smelly fish." Many other loaches are caught for consumption and there is a famous LOL report of a Korean dojo loach soup.

Although this is hard to visualize, this should be no surprise. Many salt water fish I see in pet stores that becomes part of families remind me of what we ate back in the islands.

I hear plecos are good eating as well! A foaf told me he went swimming in a local river and there were gibbys 4' long. Thats crazy! I have seen a 2' indoor that lived around 15-18 yrs at this old bar in athens, ga. I can't imagine a pleco that large. I would imagine it could feed a whole family!

Its sad but people have to eat. They must be so common in that area that they serve it daily. I bet to that area its like me eating grouper here.

But, ages ago, I ate fairly a fish only diet I have eaten a lot of weird fish All very nummy. I guess I am making up for it now -loves fishies for a different reason -

Awwww I'm shamed to say that salad looks good... but I love horseface loaches so much! So that turns my stomach in two different directions :/

I'm a fish-a-holic, both in keeping them and in eating them, but I stick to the salties like king salmon, halibut, cod, that sort of thing.... and ha, I've eaten these fish in front of my loaches before, but I think they still love me.
