Opinions needed for algae wafers!

Post by LoachOrgy » Mon Mar 19, 2007 7:33 pm

I noticed that when I feed the loaches any other brand than Hikari algae wafers they do not click. I also notice they don't really come out. When I put hikari wafers in the tank in about a minute all of the loaches are out fighting over their piece lol...

Are there any other brands that anyone knows of that their loaches crave more than others?

I have just noticed how extremely active the loaches are since the new algae wafers have been obtained.

I can't reccomnend any, but I can de-recommend wardley ones. Maybe others have had better luck, but no one exept the fry in my tank like them, even my yoyo ignores them, and he has been seen pooing out string  .

It doesnt matter what I put in the tank, the fish attack it with gusto.

I bought some wardleys shrimp pellets and they LOVE IT

I was feeding hikari algae wafers before that, now i alternate each night. If anyone has luck with another kind let me know. I try to buy a new kind of food each month so i have more variety.

Same here. My fish will pick at anything in there. I put an algae wafer in my tank twice a week, between Zuccini meals and shrimp flakes. It dissipates long enough for my schoolers , loaches, and such to get at it, then a pictus comes along and snarfs it up.

I would not hesitate to recommend Hikari anything to anyone. All my fish go nuts for their algae wafers and sinking carnivour pellets. I'm lucky that my LFS buys bulk foods and then packages them in larger portions than Hikari packs for less money.

Omega One Veggie Rounds as well as the shrimp pellets (which are now much larger) are popular with my fish.
The ingredients don't include much of the usual wheat flour and the like found in many foods. The main ingredients in Omega One products are usually something like whole salmon, shrimp and kelp...natural stuff from the ocean.

Omega One is what I use, mostly. They tend to work. I also have shrimp pellets, but they're pretty much a lost cause, now that I have pictus.

I think the cheap stuff is horrible.
I think it made some of my fish die.
I bought some floating pellets before i knew better.

My fish like the mid quality flakes i got them.
I'm going to get hikari algae wafers too, $4.75ish here.

I bought some Wardley algae early on and am finishing it up now. My guys seemed to like it as well as anything. But I'm now a big fan of Hikari, and I also like Omega One. I bought the Omega One shrimp pellets today, but the jury is still out on them. The sinking wafers and the sinking carnivore pellets get the kuhli periscopes going.

I think they like the wardley shrimp pellets so much because they soften faster than the hikari algae wafers. they'll furiously suck on those wafers and attack them for 2-3 hours whereas the shrimp pellets are gone within minutes.

For my general flake food, I use Omega One stuff. It's a combo of shrimp, salmon and all sorts of other meaty stuff.

Between meals comes the zuccini, which is a good substitute for algae wafers if you need them.

I have been using Ocean Nutrition flake food flavored with brine shrimp for about 6 months now. All the fish love it.
