Black Speckles on Clown Loach

Post by mwilde » Mon Jun 04, 2007 6:08 pm

Hello
I have 3 clown loaches that came with a tank I bought. I have noticed recently that they seems to have black blotches / speckles / marks on them that I didn’t see before - not sure if I just missed them or they are new.

All my other fish appear to be healthy – the water is mature and is good quality. I have 2 large filters and a UV filter. Ph is about 6.8, No2 is 0, and temp 29C (did have discus in the tank so that’s why it’s high).

I have attached some pictures, but unfortunately however nicely I asked them they wouldn’t stay still so the quality isn’t great. The marks are on the fins mainly.

Please can someone tell me if there is something wrong or is this normal.
Thanks Matthew

Hello mwilde,

Welcome to LOL! :D

I don't know much about the black spots, but I've attached a link where the issue was addressed:

Black Spots

Others may come along with more advice for you.

Your tank is very lovely, and your fish look great, too.

There is no known single reason for the black spots.

In some cases, the black spots crop up when the fish experience a change in water chemistry.
