What do you do, if you need to set up one of these quickly and what would the minium size be?

Hi capeldrae,

It´s advisable to have a spare tank for those emergencies. Of course, size will depend on fish size but 40 liters seams to be a good size for most fishes. A small powerhead just for water circulation and a heater is enought. No decors needed.

A lid is a good idea, too. Scared fish jump.

Even a plastic storage box can be a good temporary Q-tank. A little hard to watch the fish, though.

I have an extra 50 watt heater set and running in a tank and an extra Fluval 4s plus an extra sponge running .I then set up the smallest QT I can when neccesary by siphoning 100% tank water to the QT sized according to the fish that is sick,the length of the stay and the dosing requirements of the medicine I will use. I then break down the Qt ,let it dry and sterilize my filters before returning them to my tanks for the next round. A tank left set up is no good without occupants to keep its filter alive so running a spare tank is not the best way,besides you will buy fish and put them in so it will not stay a empty QT for long so you are back to square one

Thanks for the replys, got it set up with a filter,heater and water from my existing tanks. The tank it's self is a bit small, but will do this time. Will be better prepared the next time.

came home to discover a loach had jumped out of my Qtank but luck was on my side and the kub lived
